These bees use their strong jaws to excavate tunnels for nesting sites in wood. The round half-inch diameter entrance holes are usually found on the underside of a board. A tell-tale trace of coarse sawdust is often found directly under the hold. Wooden decks, overhands, swing sets, and other exposed wood are prime targets.
Preventing damage from carpenter bees is difficult, but treating entrance holes can reduce future nesting.
