COLOR: Orange to reddish, reddish to dark brown to brownish black

DESCRIPTION:

Harvester Ants do not invade structures. They build their nests near structures or in yards and then strip vast areas of vegetation. They cut pieces of grass and use these clippings to build large nest mounds.

CONTROL ADVICE:

Nests are easy to locate by looking for bear soil areas. Occasionally, the Harvester Ants build their nests in places that create problems for humans, like golf courses, parks, or people’s lawns. The mounds should be treated during the hottest part of the day when ants are least active.
